Contest period
This contest begins on September 14th, 2026 and ends on September 28th, 2026. All assigned cases must be coded and submitted through the Central Learning or the Guru Auditor application no later than 11:59 PM ET on September 28th, 2026.
Contest Description / Eligibility
Open to coders aged 18+ years or older who are legal residents and physically located in the U.S or India. Void where it is prohibited by law. Applicable for both Central Learning or the Guru Auditor application.
How to enter
Once you register for the Pena4 Medical Coding and Medical Coding Audit Contests, you will receive a confirmation email from the Pena4 internal team at your registered email address during the enrolment dates September 1st through September 14th, 2026. Whether you have registered for the Medical Coding Contest or the Medical Coding Audit Contest, you will receive the respective contest link via email after the initial “Thank You for Registering” confirmation email. Once the confirmation email is shared, the access to the Central Learning or the Guru Auditor software will be sent via email along with the contest guidelines, rules, and regulations. Limit one entry per coder or auditor. Entries are only valid if all cases are coded by September 28th, 2026.
Prize description
There will be 4 winners from the U.S. and 4 winners from India. The grand prizes for the medical coder and medical coding auditor with highest average accuracy and productivity scores across 10 inpatient cases, for the IP medical coders/medical coding auditors. 20 outpatient cases, for the OP medical coders/medical coding auditors (including 5 Eds, 5 SDS 5 Clinic/OPD, 5 IVR). Results will be automatically calculated through the Central Learning or the Guru Auditor software platform and announced on or before October 5, 2026.
In the case of a tie, the earliest completion date will be used to determine the winner.
Taxes
All federal, state and/or local income and other taxes and duties, if any, are the winner’s sole responsibility.
Winner selection
Results will be calculated by Pena4 using its proprietary evaluation tool, with Central Learning and Guru Auditor serving as the designated evaluators for this contest. The results will be shared on or before October 5th 2026.
Winner notification
Winners will be notified by mail, email and/or telephone. If a winner cannot be contacted due to undeliverable notifications and/or does not respond within 5 business days from the date that Pena4 first tries to notify him/her, such potential winner forfeits all rights to win the contest or receive the prize. An alternate potential winner will be selected. Pena4 assumes no responsibility for lost, late, misdirected communications and/or any computer, online, telephone, or technical malfunctions that may occur. No substitution, transfer, or assignment of the prize is permitted.
General conditions
Coders and Auditors agree to abide by the terms of these official rules and by the decisions of Pena4, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to this promotion. Acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for Pena4 to use the winners’ names and likenesses for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law. Pena4 takes no position on whether the winner’s acceptance of the prize is in compliance with coder’s or auditor’s employer’s policies or other guidelines, rules, laws, or regulations to which the coder may be subject.
Limitation of liability
By entering, coders release and hold harmless Pena4 and its respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability or any injuries, loss, or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this contest or any prize won.
Eligibility Restriction
Employees of Pena4, as well as their immediate family members, are not eligible to participate in this contest to ensure fairness, impartiality, and fair play for all participants.

6 What does the Medical Coding and Medical Coding Audit Contest include?
The proposed contest includes 10 standardized cases for Inpatient medical coders / medical coding auditors and 20 Outpatient cases for medical coders/medical coding auditors including 5 ED, 5 SDS, 5 Clinic/OPD, and 5 IVR. Evaluation may include coding accuracy, DRG, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, modifiers, and productivity.
7 How long will the contest be open?
The contest duration is from September 14th – 28th, 2026. The final contest rules will confirm the competition window.
8 Can I complete the contest according to my schedule?
Participants can complete the contest during the announced contest window, subject to the final contest rules and proctoring requirements.
9 Can I save my progress?
Progress-saving will be subject to the Central Learning or the Guru Auditor platform rules.
10 How will my results be evaluated?
Results will be evaluated using the approved scoring methodology, including accuracy and productivity metrics. Central Learning or Guru Auditor will support scoring and reporting.
11 How will the winner be determined?
Winners will be determined based on the final approved scoring methodology and contest results.
12 Is there an AI/CAC segment?
Yes. AI/CAC solutions may participate using the same standardized cases for comparison with human coders.
13 Will AI participants receive the same records?
Yes. AI participants are expected to receive the same complete medical-record documentation provided to human participants.
